The National Clusters, ideated by the Ministry of Education (MIUR) to promote collaborative models of innovation in Italy and increase the critical mass which can contribute to EU funding, are aggregations of enterprises, universities, public and private research institutions and Technology Clusters present in different regions and focused on a specific technological and application segment of strategic interest to the country’s industry.
Torino Wireless promoted, developed and coordinates the National Technology Cluster on Smart Communities, in accordance with the Piedmont Region and together with the following partners: ASTER and LEPIDA (Emilia Romagna), Monza Brianza district (Lombardy), DHITECH Technology district (Puglia), SIIT - Integrated Intelligent Systems Technologies Technology district (Liguria), Trento Rise (Trentino), VEGA (Veneto), DIT-BeCs district of cultural heritage and sustainable city’s technologies (Tuscany), and Lazio Innova (Lazio).
The National Technology Cluster on Smart Communities in Italy (SmartCommunitiesTech) aims to foster and support the development and implementation of innovative models of social integration to offer solutions to problems regarding mobility, security and territorial monitoring, health and well-being, energy efficiency, education and training, cultural and tourism and governments.
Within the strategic development plan, Torino Wireless has synthetized and aggregated the responsibilities of all partners, coming from the industry and from the research world, to carry out four projects presented for funding by the MIUR. The Ministry of Education approved all four industrial research projects presented on the call for a total value of 39 million euros: Environmentally Sustainable Smart Mobility; Zero Energy Buildings in Smart Urban Districts; The Educating City; and Social Museum and Smart Tourism.
